Definition
A high-level, interpreted programming language primarily used in web development to create interactive and dynamic content; the most widely deployed programming language in the world.
Origin
Created by Brendan Eich at Netscape Communications in 1995. Originally called Mocha, then LiveScript, it was renamed JavaScript for marketing reasons to capitalise on the popularity of Java, despite having little technical relationship to it. Standardised as ECMAScript.
