(Noun) a small piece of paper, card, fabric, or other material attached to an object to identify or describe it; a brand or record company; a descriptive word or phrase applied to a person or thing; (Verb) to attach a label to; to describe or categorise someone with a particular term.
Origin
From Old French label or lambel (a narrow band, a strip), possibly from Frankish *labba or *lappa (a lappet, a flap). The heraldic sense of a label as a horizontal bar with pendant strips in coats of arms is the oldest sense. Used in English from the 14th century.
