A large, friendly breed of dog with a short, dense coat, originally bred as a working retriever. One of the most popular family dogs in Britain and worldwide.
Origin
Named after the Labrador region of eastern Canada, from which the breed was imported to Britain in the early 19th century. The Portuguese word lavrador (labourer, farmer) is the root of the place name.
