A drink made from lemon juice, water, and sweetener. In British English typically a fizzy, commercially produced soft drink with lemon flavour; in North American English usually a still drink made by mixing fresh lemon juice with water and sugar.
Origin
From French limonade, itself from limon (lemon) + the suffix -ade (denoting a drink). The lemon entered Europe via Arab traders — Arabic laymūn, from Persian līmūn. Lemonade as a word entered English in the mid-17th century.
