Origin
From Latin lethargia, from Greek lēthargia (forgetfulness, drowsiness), from lēthargos (forgetful), from lēthē (forgetfulness, oblivion) + argos (idle). Lēthē is also the name of the river of forgetfulness in Greek mythology. Used in English from the 14th century, initially in medical contexts.
