A rounded, projecting part of an organ or structure; specifically: the soft rounded part at the bottom of the outer ear (earlobe); one of the rounded divisions of the brain, liver, or lung; a rounded projection on a leaf or other biological structure.
Origin
From Latin lobus, from Greek lobos — the lobe of the ear, the lobe of the liver. Greek lobos may be related to Latin legumen (pod, legume) through a Proto-Indo-European root referring to a hanging or rounded thing. The word has been in English from the 16th century.
