(Noun) a person who works with stone or brick; a skilled craftsperson who builds or works with stone; a Freemason; (Verb, archaic) to construct in stone.
Origin
From Old French masson (stoneworker), from Medieval Latin machio or macio (stonemason), of Frankish or Germanic origin, possibly from *makjan (to make). The craft of masonry is one of the oldest human building skills, and the word mason has been in English since the 12th century. Freemasonry takes its name and some of its symbolic language from operative stonemasonry.
