Of only moderate quality; not very good; neither very good nor very bad; ordinary in a way that is considered inadequate or disappointing.
Origin
From Latin mediocris (moderate, ordinary, middling), from medius (middle) + ocris (rugged mountain peak) — so literally meaning halfway up a rough mountain, between the peak and the base. The word entered English in the late 16th century. The same medius root gives median, medium, Mediterranean, medieval, and mediocrity.
