Origin
From Late Latin monetarius (of a mint, of money), from moneta (mint, coin, money), from Moneta, an epithet of the goddess Juno in whose temple at Rome the mint was located. The English word money also derives from this Latin moneta. The word monetary thus means relating to money in a fairly direct etymological path. The monetary system, monetary policy, and monetary union being key terms in economics and finance.
