To preoccupy or fill the mind of someone to a troubling degree; to think about something constantly and compulsively. Also used intransitively: to obsess over something.
Origin
From Latin obsessus, past participle of obsidere — to besiege, to occupy. The word carried an idea of mental siege: a thought that camps outside your mind and will not leave.
