Definition
A promenade is a leisurely, unhurried walk taken for pleasure — especially in a public space such as a seafront, park, or broad avenue. As a noun it also refers to the paved walkway itself. As a verb, to promenade means to walk in a slow, dignified, or showy manner so as to be seen. The word always carries a sense of ease, display, and social grace.
Origin
From French promenade, from se promener — to walk for pleasure — derived from Latin prominare, to drive forward. It entered English in the 16th century. By the 18th century it had become firmly associated with fashionable public strolling — the daily social ritual of the English seaside resort.
