Podcast 1 — Introduction & meaning

Narrator: Uncertain. An adjective, pronounced un-SUR-tuhn — in phonetics, /ʌnˈsəːt(ə)n/.

Narrator: Uncertain means not known for sure, or not fully confident — a future that is unclear, or a person who is unsure and hesitant.

Narrator: It comes from 'un-', not, plus 'certain', from the Latin 'certus', settled or sure — so uncertain is simply 'not settled'.

Narrator: From medieval English it carried two senses at once: facts that are unclear, and people who feel doubtful — both still alive today.

Narrator: In tone, uncertain is neutral and common — useful in everyday talk, business, and science whenever something is open or unresolved.

Narrator: So keep this in mind: uncertain is the not-sure word — a fact unsettled, or a mind unconvinced and hesitant.

Podcast 2 — In conversation

Speaker A: I'm still uncertain whether to take the job — it's a big change and I keep going back and forth.

Speaker B: Understandable. 'Uncertain' means you're not sure, or that something isn't settled yet.

Speaker A: Exactly. And the weather's so uncertain this week — I daren't plan anything outdoors.

Speaker B: Quick tip — uncertain covers both feelings and facts. Don't limit it to people; an uncertain outcome works just as well.

Speaker A: Right. So I can be uncertain, and the result can be uncertain too.

Speaker B: Exactly. A close cousin is 'doubtful', though doubtful leans towards expecting a no, while uncertain is simply undecided.

Speaker A: Handy. So uncertain is just not sure.

Speaker B: Perfectly. Uncertain: unsettled and unsure.

Podcast 3 — Prompt engineering

Speaker B: Today 'uncertain' is our memory hook for prompts about handling the unknown — telling the AI to plan gracefully for cases where data or outcomes are not sure.

Speaker A: So the word reminds us to ask the AI to handle the unsure cases?

Speaker B: Exactly. Let's start with loading.

Speaker B: It works because 'uncertain' names the not-yet-known moment to design for.

Speaker A: Nice. What about errors?

Speaker B: Try this.

Speaker A: Right, 'uncertain' makes the plan-for-the-unknown idea obvious.

Speaker B: Now input.

Speaker B: Calling it 'uncertain' keeps the handle-the-unknown focus clear.

Speaker A: Can we do a dashboard?

Speaker B: Here's a tight one.

Speaker A: And one for forms?

Speaker B: This one's memorable.

Speaker A: I love how 'uncertain' makes 'plan for the unknown' easy to recall.

Speaker B: That's the trick — say 'uncertain', and the AI designs for unsure data and outcomes instead of assuming everything is always known.
